Psychological therapy involves an interaction between Dr. Barbopoulos and clients that includes discussion of difficulties and related events in the clients’ lives. The focus is to help clients learn effective ways to manage challenges.
Although talking about difficulties with a skilled therapist helps to resolve them in many cases, serious personal issues often require special approaches guided by a trained psychologist or other mental health professional. Dr. Barbopoulos uses proven techniques based on an approach known as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). CBT uses special methods to help people change how they think, feel, and act so as to enjoy happier and more productive lives.
When appropriate, Dr. Barbopoulos also incorporates mindfulness training into her practice. Clients who experience distress about particular events often find the mindfulness orientation useful. Mindfulness techniques emphasize a focus on the present. Mindfulness training helps people to observe their thoughts and feelings from a distance, and to accept them as they are without labelling them as “good” or “bad”. Acceptance of existing thoughts and feelings makes them less distressing.
Dr. Barbopoulos engages in psychological therapy with clients either In-Office or by E-Therapy (also known as online therapy, tele therapy, and internet therapy). Use the following links to find out more.
