As a certified teacher in Peaceful Weight Loss Through Yoga, Kathleen helps people develop a healthier, happier relationship with food and their bodies. Kathleen combines her experience as a yoga teacher and years as a counsellor to guide people in their weight loss process.
The PWL program applies a holistic approach towards weight loss incorporating 4 key concepts which are rooted in classical yoga texts:
These principles form the basis of the PWL work. Yoga facilitates the discovery of our true nature. The regular practice of yoga poses (asanas) unites our physical, mental and spiritual elements. A sense of peace, acceptance and awareness is developed. From a place of greater clarity, we learn to monitor and modify our eating habits. These changes lead to greater energy and cultivate a sense of calm. Through PWL, people can achieve and maintain a weight that feels right for them.
The program is delivered in private, individual sessions.
Personal yoga instruction: As long as you can breathe, you can do yoga. No special skills are needed. Kathleen will help you develop a practice that is easily integrated into your life. The practice will be tailored to suit your preferences and abilities. Stress reduction is a key component of your weight loss. Yoga helps us to de-stress and build the awareness needed to move towards permanent change.
Meditation and Yoga Nidra: Breathing practices, focused attention, and deep relaxation are an integral part of the PWL program. The development of these skills can reduce the stress hormones that are associated with weight gain and alter the biochemistry of our brain which can enhance impulse control.
Food coaching and support: Kathleen will help you bring greater awareness to your food choices. An exploration of eating patterns and energy levels will help you determine what foods are best for you. Together, you will establish an ideal diet that supports permanent change. For most people a 6 month commitment is needed to realize change. Generally, clients meet with Kathleen 2-4 times per month.
Fee: $55 per session (a sliding scale is available for low income clients)
