A Course in Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

“Mindfulness involves paying attention to each event experienced in the present moment within our body and mind, with a non-judgemental, non-reactive and accepting attitude.” (Dr. B Cayoun and Dr. K Elbourne)

This 8 session course is designed to develop the skills to manage stress and difficult emotions, and to change unwanted patterns of behaviour. MiCBT incorporates mindfulness training with well established principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Participants develop greater awareness and acceptance of their thoughts and bodily sensations, leading to a reduction in emotional reactivity. Evidence-based techniques help change behaviours and deep-seated beliefs. The training can be delivered to individuals or to small groups. The purpose of the course is to help people apply the practice of mindfulness in their daily life.

Participants will also be required to practice daily meditation sessions at home.

Through the practice of mindfulness meditation, participants develop greater awareness and acceptance of their thoughts and body sensations, leading to a reduction in emotional reactivity.

CBT involves a set of evidence-based techniques that help change our deep-seated beliefs and behaviours. The following skills will be learned during this course:

  • Greater sense of self control
  • An increased feeling of calmness and mental balance
  • An ability to understand and tolerate difficult emotions and sensations
  • An ability to deal with intrusive and unhelpful thoughts
  • A greater ability to change unhelpful behaviours and prevent relapses
